Wyndham Project

Henrico, VA

Project Request: The home had deteriorating masonite lap siding, leaky single pane windows, and the original asphalt shingle roof.  The home is a classic colonial style that was built in the early 1990s in the Wyndham neighborhood of Henrico County.  The homeowners wanted to replace their roof, siding, windows, and gutters in a manner that would completely renew the exterior of the home.

Project Details

The homeowners were really excited to give a full facelift to their home since they had been waiting and preparing for this moment for a few years.
  • For the roof, the homeowners chose GAF’s Timberline HDZ architectural shingles in Pewter Gray. They opted for the System Plus roof system warranty which provides non-prorated warranty coverage of their roof for 50 years. This roof system includes GAF roofing components such as ProStart starter shingles at the eaves and rakes, Seal-A-Ridge cap shingles, and Snow Country Advanced ridge vent for improved attic ventilation. We also included GAF’s Pivot Lifetime pipe collars.
  • The replacement windows are the Gold Series Earthwise window by RJT Industries, made right here in Virginia. The new windows matched the profile of the original windows by having the colonial grids between the panes of glass which allows for easy cleaning by the homeowner.  The arched windows over the 1st story front windows were also replaced.  We custom fabricated the exterior trim from 1” thick PVC panel in order to get the right shape and reveal around these arched windows. The wood exterior trim of the other windows is structurally integrated to the frame of the old single pane windows, so we highly recommend wrapping in a smooth aluminum coil rather than replacing it with Hardie trim. This way, we don’t damage the interior trim or drywall near the window.
  • Smooth finish Hardie Siding with a 7” exposure combined with white Hardie trim was a classic choice for the new siding.  The homeowners wrestled with several colors but landed on a fantastic choice of Light Mist complemented with Midnight Blue raised panel shutters.  With the new ridge vent on the roof, we were able to remove the gable end vents to ensure proper exhaust ventilation for the attic.  In addition, the rear screen porch was rescreened with the ScreenEze system and the 6 front decorative foundation vents were replaced with replica PVC vents.
  • For the gutters, Tredegar installed 6” white gutters with 3x4 downspouts.  The larger gutter and downspouts are able to better manage the stormwater from a large, steep roof like this one.  Finally, the Xtreme Gutter Guards mean the homeowners no longer have to worry about cleaning out those gutters.

Final Results
